“I Dare Me: Move Courageously Toward Change”

Presented By: Lu Ann Cahn

No matter where you are or what you’ve achieved, we can all get stuck. We spend most of our days unaware we’re doing the same thing we did the day before. We face a crisis, wring our hands, feel powerless or we’re “running on a treadmill” without joy. Somehow we lose our best self along the way. But the fact is, each of us has the power to reclaim our day and move courageously toward change: with joy, with laughter, with daring, and a sense of adventure. An “I Dare Me” keynote is about creating the life and career you want; finding a way to move forward without moving to Italy, running away from home, or meditating on your navel.

Lu Ann’s keynote is not just a presentation; it’s an uplifting experience. She entertains, inspires and motivates her audiences using humor, visuals, and active participation. A lifelong storyteller, author and 8-time Emmy award winning journalist, she shares her own experience as a two-time cancer survivor and her year long journey doing something new every single day to get her life unstuck.

Participants can expect to try some quick easy “dares” and learn the power of “Do the New” to move toward positive change. Leaders, professionals, and individuals will see what happens in the brain when we do the same thing over and over again, and what’s possible when we get in the habit of stepping outside our comfort zone, face fear and own our day.

Lu Ann Can is the author of the inspirational memoir I Dare Me, an entertaining look back on a year that changed everything for her. The book grew out of a blog called Year of Firsts, which chronicled this veteran journalist, mother and survivor’s daily adventures as she pushed herself to try something new every single day – an effort to get her life “unstuck” as her daughter put it.

She went on this year long adventure while working her full time “day job” as an 8-time Emmy award-winning journalist with NBC10 News in Philadelphia. Cahn’s journey eventually led to a major career change. In December 2014, she left her 40 year career in broadcast news to dare audiences across the country and to help launch the next generation of communicators at Temple University. Cahn is the Director of Career Services for Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication.

In the spirit of holiday giving, Tri-State’s charity this year is CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Mercer and Burlington County. At our December meeting, we will be collecting monetary donations.

CASA of Mercer was established in 2000, and merged with Burlington County is 2011, enabling more children to receive support.  Our mission is to train and supervise community volunteers, appointed by the Family Court, to advocate for the best interest of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.  Our dedicated volunteers strive to ensure the emotional, physical and educational well-being of these children while they reside in foster homes or residential treatment facilities.  The ultimate goal of our volunteers is to help establish a safe, stable and permanent home for each child we serve.
